Next Step Productions (NSP) provides educational services that promote the objectives of human security, in particular the goal of eradicating landmines and explosive remnants of war. The first major project by NSP’s Film Division, a documentary feature film on the global problem of landmines entitled Disarm, was completed in mid-2005 and continues to be distributed to widespread acclaim. In 2006, NSP’s newly formed Research Division is undertaking a book project on landmines and human security.
New Zealander Mary Wareham established Next Step Productions in September 2003 in order to enable make Disarm with complete editorial and financial independence from her employer, Human Rights Watch, and the global coalition featured in the film, the International Campaign to Ban Landmines. Next Step Productions is a Washington DC-based non-profit organization registered in the United States (Tax ID # 05-0584444).
